Electrical Safety Program

RSRH Livestock Corporation (RSRH) is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment and to protecting employees from injury or death caused by uncontrolled electrical hazards in the workplace. The purpose of RSRH’s Electrical Safety Program is to establish work policies, practices, and procedures to train employees in basic electrical hazard recognition and safe work practices. This program applies to qualified and non-qualified employees who are exposed to electricity as part of their job.

Management. Along with providing financial and leadership support, the management of RSRH Livestock Corporation will assist the Program Administrator, supervisors, and employees in complying with this policy.

 Program Administrator. The Program Administrator is responsible for:

  • Identifying work tasks that need to be performed by a qualified employee
  • Conducting electrical safety inspections
  • Correcting electrical safety hazards as soon as possible
  • Ensuring all new electrical equipment and components comply with the program
  • Reviewing the program annually and revising if necessary
  • Maintaining a list of all qualified employees
  • Conducting training for employees

Supervisors. Supervisors are responsible for:

  • Conducting periodic work inspections
  • Ensuring employees are provided with and use the appropriate PPE
  • Ensuring employees comply with all aspects of the Electrical Safety Program
  • Testing electrical hand tools every three months

Employees. An employee will only work on electrical equipment if he/she is a qualified worker, meaning he/she has been trained and authorized to perform work on deenergized electrical equipment and components. Employees are responsible for:

  • Wearing the appropriate PPE when working with or around electrical equipment
  • Reporting electrical safety hazards to their supervisor of the Program Administrator
  • Following the safe work practices outlined in this program
  • Visually inspecting electrical equipment, tools, and cords before each use
  • Completing all required training
